Although almost every day at Six Apart is Take Your Dog to Work Day, Friday was extra special because it was the official Take Your Dog to Work Day! Plus, as lovers of blogs and animals, we think it's great that active blogger and Human Society's President and CEO, Wayne Pacelle, thinks having dogs around the office is a good reminder of "who we're working for."
We realize some people have it ruff and aren't lucky enough to be able to bring their dog to work, but hopefully these pictures taken at Six Apart last Friday will get your tails wagging... And let me tell you, it's harder than it looks to get all the doggies and their fetching owners in one picture.
Fast pair of socks to give to my son's helper at school, Niels, who has a whopping foot size 13 (European 47).

For ancient civilizations, this day was akin to our modern day New Year's Eve and was viewed as a time to reflect and renew. So why not kick off your summer celebration with a new theme?

Today my Father would have been 94 years old! I always knew in my Heart I wouldn't have him forever but, I miss him everyday. His words of wisdom and funny ways of saying things like Horses doovers instead of Hors' Dourve. He was a WWII Vet and served in Europe and Fiji .He was the youngest of seven children and one of two boys, My Grandparents were Russian Jew immigrants and my Father worked hard and was the man of the family when his father died when he was 17.
I was born when he was 52 and he was a bachelor until he was 42. He and my Mother met when she was 23 and they eloped when she was 26. She said she gave him an ultimatem lol Getting married or she was going to move to California (were from Duluth MN,) to be near her Sister. So they eloped that weekend! My Grandfather wasn't thrilled with the match at first (grandmother was :) ) because Dad was 17 years older and Jewish. My Grandfather was a German/Catholic and Grandmother was Scotish/Irish and Presbyterian. It was the 50's and things were different then.I always remember them getting along well.
My sisters were both born in the first two years and then 6 1/2 years after my middle sister, I showed up! ( she has never forgiven me). We had a nice childhood and He worked very hard! He owned his own business and by the time I was born they could afford to travel. We took many summer trips across Canada and the U.S that I will never forget. When he retired we moved to Florida. The best thing was the day after school was out for the summer, that we went back to Northern Mn. for three months. I think thats why I still consider it home. He was 70 when I graduated High school and had heart trouble and a couple bouts with cancer. My Oldest sister died from Leukemia when I was 23 and it hit both my parents hard! thats when I saw him age.
I always wanted his approval. He could be very stern.I was happy that they loved my Husband and that he was able to walk me down the aisle when I married Scott. Unfortunately he bacame suddenly ill when I was 8 months pregnant and passed away Christmas day. I was able to tell him it was another Granddaughter ! The joke in our family was that Dad was always outnumbered by women in his life , he had 5 sisters, a wife, 3 daughters 2 grand daughters and now, a great granddaughter. His ashes are in the Rose garden at the park in our old neighborhood. He would bike there when I was little and clip a rose for my mom even tho there was a sign posted with a large fine for doing so. My mother would chastize him and laugh each time he did it.We thought it was a great place for him, since he didn't give us specific instructions... my mom thought long and hard about the perfect place
Happy Birthday Daddy
...just one detail is missing....
